Children’s Day.

November 24, 2011

I hope that everyone who came for Children’s Day yesterday enjoyed themselves as much as I did.

Some of the older children came up on stage to read out their poems and stories which they wrote during the Creative Writing Workshops. We then had the special ‘children’s edition’ of the slideshows – featuring football in Africa and Mexican wrestlers and a Super Hero Grandmother. This was followed by photos by the children themselves, taken during this year’s Anjali Photo Workshops!

Pech, Sophal and Rattana also became street photographers for a day – working alongside their tutors from the Anjali Photo Workshops. Thanks to the support of Canon, the tutors were transformed into mobile printing booths with Selphy printers! I spoke to Pech and Sophal after the event, to see how they felt about the experience. Pech said the best part was how he no longer felt shy to approach people to take their photographs, and Sophal said she enjoyed being able to interact with them by giving them back their own photos.

Here are some photos from yesterday!

See you all soon at McDermott Gallery for the opening of Roger Ballen and Krzystof Wladyka’s exhibition! The slideshows will be at the FCC Angkor at 8.30 pm — tonight’s show features 10 photographers from China selected by our guest curator Wang Xi!
